8 Aurora Businesses Cited For Selling Alcohol, Tobacco To Minors: Cops
AURORA, IL — Eight Aurora businesses were cited for selling alcohol and tobacco to minors during a recent enforcement effort conducted by the Aurora Police Department, officials said on Wednesday.
The department’s police cadets went undercover during the enforcement effort to ensure that local businesses are carding customers seeking to purchase alcohol and tobacco, police said. cadets, who are all under the age of 21, went into are businesses and attempted to purchase alcohol or tobacco.
Three of the businesses carded the cadets and were complying with the City of Aurora’s ordinances that required carding to anyone that prohibit the sale of alcohol or tobacco to minors.

Police announced Wednesday that the following businesses did not card the cadets and let them purchase alcohol or tobacco:
- Mr. Puff Smoke and Vape, 344 W. Indian Trail Rd.
- 7-Eleven, 2411 W. Sullivan Rd.
- BP, 2200 W. Galena Blvd.
- Randall Liquors, 719 N. Lake St.
- Citgo, 420 N. Farnsworth Ave.
- Citgo, 444 E. New York St.
- Liquor Lane of Aurora, 2178 Ogden Ave.
- Papa J’s Smoke Shop, 4432 E. New York St.
After completing the unlawful sale, police investigators entered the store and issued the clerk a notice to appear for the unlawful sale of an alcoholic or tobacco product to a person under 21 years of age, police said.

The following three businesses were found to be in compliance during the undercover effort:
- BP, 1395 Butterfield Rd.
- Primos, 221 Hill Ave.
- Circle K, 2946 E. New York St.
“The Aurora Police Department will continue to perform random checks on local businesses to ensure they are properly checking identification before selling individuals alcohol or tobacco,” Aurora Police Special Operations Group Lt. Greg Spayth said in a news release. “It is the duty of each business that sells these products to make sure they are complying with state and local laws and not selling alcohol or tobacco to minors.”
