At least 6 killed, 3 injured in Russian strikes on eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, says governor
Several houses and buildings were damaged in the assault. “The Russians bombed the city with a multiple rocket launcher, hitting a residential area. According to initial information, 12 residential buildings have been damaged and four are on fire,” reported news AFP quoting Kyrylenko as saying.
On Tuesday also, Russian troops conducted an assault in the Bakhmut and Avdiivka direction. However, Russian soldiers reportedly retreated without any success.
The United Nations energy watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), also sounded an alarm regarding a possible nuclear disaster. Rafael Grossi, Director-General of IAEA, warned that Europe’s largest nuclear power plant – Zaporizhzhya – in Ukraine ‘is completely out of control’. Grossi issued an urgent plea to Russia and Ukraine to quickly allow experts to visit the complex to stabilize the situation and avoid a nuclear accident, reported the Associated Press.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. The war has intensified in the eastern part of Ukraine in the Donbas region comprising two separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
