Downtown Chicago Walking Along E Illinois Street: N Michigan Avenue to Navy Pier Early Dec. 2021
An early December afternoon 2021, I walked East Illinois Street, from Magnificent Mile, or North Michigan Avenue, to Navy Pier. Part of Chicago’s Streeterville Neighborhood, and part of Downtown Chicago, this street manifested both lively and quiet atmosphere. Lit-up trees filled the street with Christmas atmosphere. From this street, numerous spectacular skyscrapers and skylines were visible. Lake Shore Drive was the limit of the skyscraper forest, beyond which the space became more open. Navy Pier, with its Centennial Wheel, was conspicuous.
Trees were bare, green was gone. But the bare branches made the city more transparent, creating another kind of beauty.
