Haemonetics to Face Biometrics Claims for Fingerprint Collection

Haemonetics Corp. will have to face a proposed class action brought by an individual who says that the company violated Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act when it collected her fingerprints at a plasma donation center.
Mary Crumpton alleges that the blood and plasma management company collected her biometric data through a client, Octapharma Plasma Inc., without her permission; sent it to be stored on Haemonetics-owned servers outside of Illinois; and didn’t make a publicly available data retention and destruction policy, as required under the act.
Haemonetics attempted to get the suit dismissed for lack of personal jurisdiction, arguing that there’s …
