Ice Age DuPage Illinois – The Brewster Creek Mastodon

0

In this series, we investigate three specimens of Ice Age megafauna, found in DuPage County, Illinois, within the past 50 years – in particular, proboscideans, the mastodon and mammoth species that used to roam amidst the coniferous forests, wetlands, and open steppe of the upper midwestern United States, more than 10,000 years ago.

In this video, we explore the Brewster Creek Mastodon, found in 2005 in the northernmost sections of the Pratt’s Wayne Forest Preserve in Bartlett, Illinois. We’ll tell the story of its discovery, the related Ice Age environmental studies of Brewster Creek, and how it relates to other proboscidean finds in the area.
