Pairings for the 2022 ACC/Big Ten Men’s Basketball Challenge were announced Friday, with Illinois set to host Syracuse on Nov. 29.

This will mark only the fourth all-time game between the Fighting Illini and Orange, and first in 27 years. It also is the first meeting between the programs played on campus, with the previous three contests all held at neutral sites.

Syracuse won the most recent match-up in 1995, defeating the Illini in the Honolulu Rainbow Classic. The programs met in Minneapolis in the Elite Eight of the 1989 NCAA Tournament, with the top-seeded Illini defeating the second-seeded Orange, securing a trip to the Final Four for the Flyin’ Illini. The first meeting in the series was an Illinois victory at the 1978 Kentucky Invitational Tournament in Lexington.

Illinois has won its last two ACC/Big Ten Challenge contests, posting a 15-point victory at No. 10 Duke in 2020 and defeating Notre Dame by 10 in Champaign last season. The Illini own a record of 10-13 all-time in the Challenge.

ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will once again combine to televise all 14 games of the 24th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge, matching top college basketball programs playing for the Commissioner’s Cup. All games will also be available to stream via the ESPN app. Television network assignments and tip times will be announced at a later date.

Illinois Basketball season ticket renewals and new season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at FightingIllini.com. Illinois is the reigning Big Ten Champion after going 15-5 in league play last season to win its first regular season title since 2005. Illinois has posted a 44-16 record in conference play over the last three years, the winningest stretch in program history.
