Illinois State heads to Chicago for MVC Showcase
Normal, Ill. – Illinois State Swimming and Dive looks to continue recent momentum as the Redbirds travel to Chicago, Illinois for the MVC Showcase-North hosted by UIC Oct. 21-22. Action on Friday gets underway at 5 p.m. CT while events are scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday.
MVC Swim and Dive programs are prepped for a big weekend as UIC, Illinois State, UNI and Indiana State head to UIC for the MVC Showcase-North and Southern Illinois hosts Missouri State, Little Rock and Evansville for the MVC Showcase-South.
LAST TIME OUT
The Redbirds took on Illinois and Southern Illinois last weekend in a tri-meet hosted by the Illini. Illinois State posted a strong showing despite suffering dual losses in both meets with in-state foes.
Lauren Wisdom took home first over SIU with a with a season-best mark of 10:36.44 in the 1000-yard freestyle. Freshman Ella Turken also secured a victory over the Salukis with a time of 24.36 in the 50-yard freestyle, which bested her 24.95 against McKendree to open the year Oct. 8
Against Illinois, Cassidy Carey took home a victory over the Illini with a season-best 2:04.88 in the 200-yard backstroke.
On the boards, sophomore Eva Reyes and freshman Ronja Rundgren both recorded top-3 finishes in 1M and 3M. Reyes swept 1M and 3M with dominating victories over Illini and Saluki competition. She posted a 279.5 to win in 3M while her mark of 278.60 took home first in 1M. Meanwhile Rundgren posted the best showing of her young career with a second place finish vs SIU in both events. Rundgren recorded a score of 279.45 in 3M and posted a 231.10 in 1M.
REYES CONTINUES TO ROLL
Reyes is still unbeaten on the 2022 season as she has swept 1M and 3M in back to back weekends to open the year. The MVC Diver of the Week for Oct. 12, Reyes took first place in 3M by nearly 20 points over Illinois and by more than 30 points over SIU. Her margins of victory in 1M totaled more than 75 points over her competition Saturday in Champaign.
