Jackson State releases TC Taylor’s coaching staff

The coaching staff for the upcoming 2023 season is now official

JACKSON STATE ATHLETICS PRESS RELEASE New Jackson State University football coach T. C. Taylor has officially named his inaugural staff for the football program.Staying with the program is Otis Riddley, who is now Assistant Head Coach / Tight Ends, Jeff Weeks is now Senior Defensive Analyst / Special Teams, and Brandon Morton is now the running backs coach.New to the program are: Maurice Harris, Offensive Coordinator; Jonathan Bradley, Defensive Coordinator / Defensive Line; Jason Onyebuagu, Co-Offensive Coordinator / Offensive Line; RJ Fleming, Wide Receivers; Quinn Billerman, Quarterbacks; Tyquan Hammock, Linebackers; Torenzo Quinn, Defensive Backs / Defensive Passing Game Coordinator; Jaylon Watson; Director of Player Personnel; and Jashell Mitchell, Assistant Athletic Director, Football Operations.Riddley is in his fifth season on the Jackson State football staff, his first as assistant head coach / tight ends coach. He spent the previous three seasons as recruiting coordinator after coaching the offensive line in 2019. In the past three seasons, JSU has had the top-rated HBCU recruiting classes as JSU football has gone undefeated in the SWAC in the past two seasons, posting a 23-3 record with consecutive SWAC Championships.Weeks is in his fourth season on the Jackson State coaching staff, his first as Senior Defensive Analyst and Special Teams Coordinator. Weeks spent the previous three seasons coaching the defensive line, as the Tigers led the FCS in sacks in 2021 (55) and 2022 (48).In 2022, Morton was a graduate assistant coaching running backs, he helped RB Sy’veon Wilkerson post the first 1,000-rushing season at JSU since 1999 as the Tigers went undefeated in league play for the second straight year and won its second straight SWAC Championship.Harris spent the previous four seasons as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Liberty under new Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze. Last season, the Flames averaged nearly 400 yards per game last season. No stranger to Mississippi, Harris spent seven seasons at Ole Miss (2012-18) working as a tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator. Harris spent the 2006 season at Ole Miss as Assistant Athletic Director for Football Operations. Prior to working at Ole Miss, Harris was tight ends coach at Arkansas State (2008-11) and began his collegiate career at Alabama State as running backs coach (2004-05). The Memphis, Tenn. native and Arkansas State graduate began his coaching career at Whitehaven High School as an assistant coach before being named head coach (1999-2003).Last season, Bradley was co-defensive coordinator at Alcorn, where the Braves ranked third in the SWAC with 39 sacks and fourth in total defense yielding 325.1 yards per game. Prior to Alcorn, Bradley coached at Arkansas – Pine Bluff, serving in various positions since 2019, including defensive coordinator, defensive line coach, and Associate Head Coach. Prior to UAPB, Coach Bradley spent time at North Carolina Central as an assistant defensive line coach. Bradley played four seasons in the NFL as a defensive lineman with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions.Onyebuagu (pronounced on-yah-BOO-aah-ga) spent the previous two seasons as tight ends coach at his alma mater, Northern Illinois. Prior to returning to NIU, Onyebuagu coached the offensive line at Southeast Missouri State (2020) after his first stint in the SWAC at Arkansas Pine Bluff (2019). While at North Carolina Central, Onyebuagu worked as offensive line coach (2014), running game coordinator (2015-16) and co-offensive coordinator (2017-18) over a five-year period. He helped lead the Eagles to four-straight winning seasons (2014-17) in that stretch and winning a MEAC Championship,Last season, Fleming was the running backs coach at Texas State, helping Lincoln Pare to a career-high in rushing yards, highlighted by a 200-yard rushing game. As wide receivers coach at Eastern Michigan in 2021, Fleming mentored and guided Hassan Beydoun to a 1,000-yard season on 97 catches in earning second-team All-Mid America Conference honors as the Eagles earned a Lending Tree Bowl berth. Prior to EMU, Fleming spent two seasons at Liberty working with the wide receivers in an offensive quality control role as the Flames posted a 10-1 mark in 2020, the best in school history.Billerman spent the previous two seasons at Duke as a graduate assistant coaching quarterbacks and receivers. Prior to that, Billerman spent three seasons (2018-20) on staff at Rice University as an offensive quality control coach. While with the Owls, Billerman mentored quarterback Mike Collins to honorable mention all-conference honors. Before joining the Rice staff, he spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater N.C. Central University where he worked with the quarterbacks and the wide receivers, helping the Eagles win the 2016 MEAC Championship and a berth in the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl.Hammock joins Tiger Nation after spending 2022 season as the assistant cornerbacks coach at Northern Illinois University. In 2021, Hammock was on the staff at Lafayette as linebackers coach. Hammock spent the 2020 season as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. In 2019, Hammock was a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois, working with the linebackers. That followed a 2018 season during which he broke into collegiate coaching at Kentucky Christian University as defensive backs coach. Last season, Quinn was the safeties coach at Alcorn in 2022, where the Braves secondary got stronger as the year went on, registering at least one interception in seven of the final nine games. Prior to Alcorn, Quinn spent one year as offensive coordinator at Mississippi Delta Community College. Prior to joining the MDCC staff, Quinn spent two seasons at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in several roles, including coaching the safeties and defensive backs and serving as the Assistant Head Coach and defensive passing game coordinator.Watson spent the 2022 season at Texas Tech, where the Raiders won eight games and finished the season with a TaxAct Texas Bowl win over Ole Miss. Prior to his time at Texas Tech, Watson spent the 2021 campaign as an assistant strength coach at Florida Atlantic working with the football program. Watson was a graduate assistant at Northern Arizona (2020) working with football, track’s sprinters, jumpers, and hurdlers, as well as with the women’s basketball team.An advocate for the student-athlete experience, Mitchell has served in various capacities within collegiate and professional sports. Riddley is in his fifth season on the Jackson State football staff, his first as assistant head coach / tight ends coach. He spent the previous three seasons as recruiting coordinator after coaching the offensive line in 2019. In the past three seasons, JSU has had the top-rated HBCU recruiting classes as JSU football has gone undefeated in the SWAC in the past two seasons, posting a 23-3 record with consecutive SWAC Championships.

Weeks is in his fourth season on the Jackson State coaching staff, his first as Senior Defensive Analyst and Special Teams Coordinator. Weeks spent the previous three seasons coaching the defensive line, as the Tigers led the FCS in sacks in 2021 (55) and 2022 (48).
