Ohio State staff hits road with plenty of targets to watch

* Devin Royal, 6-7, forward, Pickerington (Ohio) Central – Royal (ranked 77th) made recent official visits to Ohio State and Michigan State and was also offered recently by Michigan. He helped lead Pick Central to a 26-2 record and the Division I state championship this past season. He was a first-team All-Ohio pick in Division I. He helped lead Pick Central to a 26-2 record and the D-I state championship. He averaged 19.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game as a junior. He also has offers from Clemson, Iowa State, Penn State, Xavier, Dayton, Illinois, Virginia Tech, Butler and others. He plays for All-Ohio Red on the Nike circuit. * Dailyn Swain, 6-8, guard/forward, Columbus Africentric – Swain (ranked 79th) was the Division III state player of the year as a junior. He averaged 20.8 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 5.2 apg, 2.9 spg and 3.0 bpg. He shot 66 percent from the floor and 36 percent on threes. He led Africentric to a 23-6 record and a berth in the D-III state semifinals. He had 32 points and 13 rebounds in the state semifinal loss to Ottawa-Glandorf as he hit 13 of 18 shots from the floor. He has offers from Ohio State, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Marquette, Virginia Tech and others. He plays for All-Ohio Red on the Nike circuit.

* Lawrent Rice, 6-3, point guard, Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne – Rice (ranked 183rd) was a second-team All-Ohio pick in Division I. He led Wayne to an 18-8 record and a berth in a regional semifinal game. He averaged 20.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 3.6 steals per game. He shot 53 percent from the floor and 40 percent on threes. His top eight list of schools includes Georgetown, Louisville, Kansas State, Marquette, Notre Dame, Ohio State, VCU and Xavier. He plays for All-Ohio Red on the Nike circuit.

* Austin Parks, 6-10, center, St. Marys (Ohio) Memorial – Parks (ranked 109th) verbaled to Ohio State on Feb. 13. He picked OSU over Cincinnati, Dayton, Illinois and Michigan State, among others. He was a second-team Division II All-Ohio pick as a junior. His team went 18-8 and reached the regional championship game. He averaged 19 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.5 blocks and two dunks per game. He plays for the Ohio Buckets (Turf) travel team. He is recovering from a knee injury and hopes to be back to play in an event July 22-24 in Fort Wayne.

* George Washington III, 6-2, combo guard, Dayton Chaminade-Julienne – Washington (ranked 63rd) verbaled to Ohio State on Nov. 3. He picked OSU over Auburn, Louisville and Tennessee. He played his junior year at Christian Academy of Louisville. His high school team went 20-12 as he averaged roughly 23.4 ppg and 7.2 rpg. He shot 35.8 percent on threes. He has transferred to C-J for his senior year as his dad is now an assistant coach for the University of Dayton women’s team. He plays with the All-Ohio Red team

* Xavier Booker, 6-10, power forward, Indianapolis Cathedral – Booker (ranked 61st) is actually ranked as a top-five national prospect by some services after a big spring with the George Hill Indy All-Stars. That team will be at the Best of the South near Atlanta this weekend. He has offers from Michigan State, Ohio State, Duke, Indiana, Purdue and many others. As a junior, Booker averaged 12.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots per game for the Class 4A state champions. He helped lead the Fighting Irish to a 26-6 record.

* Scotty Middleton, 6-6, small forward, Wichita (Kan.) Sunrise Christian – Middleton (ranked 37th) started for Sunrise Christian, which was ranked No. 1 nationally most of the season. Sunrise lost in the semifinals of the Geico Nationals to finish the year at 24-2. He is a native of Miami, Fla. He has made springtime official visits to Ohio State, Seton Hall and UConn. He is also considering Kansas and Texas Tech. He plays for Bradley Beal Elite on the Nike circuit.

* Wesley Yates, 6-4, guard, Beaumont (Texas) United – Yates (ranked 34th) is one of the fastest rising prospects in the 2023 class. He plays for Liv On/Fleur De Lis on the Nike circuit. He has 25 offers, including Auburn, Alabama, Houston, Texas, Ohio State and many others.

* Bronny James, 6-3, shooting guard, Sierra Canyon, Calif. – James (ranked 47th) is the son of NBA great (and Akron native and Ohio State superfan) LeBron James. He plays for Strive For Greatness on the Nike circuit. Bronny does not do interviews in any kind of regular basis, so it’s unclear who his top schools may be. He was back in Ohio this past weekend to play in The Battle in Akron. Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and Ohio State could all be involved.

* T.J. Power, 6-8, power forward, Shrewsbury (Mass.) Worcester Academy – Power (ranked 66th) plays for BABC on the Nike circuit. Ohio State offered recently. He also has offers from Iowa, Virginia, Boston College, Indiana, Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame and others.

* Chris Lockett, 6-5, shooting guard, New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman – Lockett (ranked 104th) plays for Liv On/Fleur De Lis on the Nike circuit. Ohio State came in with an offer recently. He also has offers from Baylor, Houston, Kansas, LSU and others.

* Jamie Kaiser, 6-6, small forward, Burke (Va.) Bishop Ireton – Kaiser (ranked 106th) plays for New World on the adidas circuit. Ohio State came in with an offer recently. He also has offers from Maryland, Virginia, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Boston College and others.

* Carey Booth, 6-9, power forward, Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy – Booth (ranked 74th) is the son of Calvin Booth, a Groveport, Ohio, native who starred at Penn State and in the NBA and is currently the general manager of the Denver Nuggets. He has offers from Penn State, Michigan, Arizona State and others. He has said he would be interested in visiting Ohio State. He plays for KC Run GMC on the Under Armour circuit.
