Racers Baseball Begins Postseason in Lexington with Tennessee Tech


Murray State (30-24) baseball begins the postseason quest against Tennessee Tech at 12:30 pm ET on Wednesday at Wild Health Field in Lexington, Kentucky. After an appearance in the title game a season ago, the Racers will look to hoist the championship trophy for the first time since 2003. Murray State placed four players on the All-OVC Teams with Bryson Bloomer and Hayden Wynja earning First Team Honors, Jacob Pennington earning Second Team Honors, and Carson Garner earning All-Freshman honors.

Jake Slunder and Bryson Bloomer anchor the Racers lineup as team captains. Slunder has a .326 Batting Average with seven triples and 24 stolen bases from the lead-off spot for MSU. Bloomer brings the power element to the lineup with team-highs in home runs (12) and RBIs (66). 

Hayden Wynja has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the OVC in his first year as a Racer. The tall southpaw put together a stretch of 26.0 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run across starts against SIUE, Austin Peay, Western Illinois, and went into the seventh inning against Tennessee Tech before allowing a solo home run to end the streak. On the year, the All-Conference performer has posted a 7-3 record with a 3.47 ERA and 81 strikeouts while allowing opponents to hit just .219 against him. 

Scouting Report

Jason Hinchman highlights the Golden Eagles offense with a .373 Batting Average with 22 home runs and 66 RBIs. Hinchman was named All-OVC First Team by the league on Tuesday.

Peyton Calitri is the projected starting pitcher for TTU. Calitri is 5-5 with a 5.26 ERA this season and tossed five innings while allowing five earned runs against the Racers in his last time out.
