Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian Illinois State Historical Marker Dedication

Dedication ceremony of an Illinois state historical marker honoring former Macomb resident, MHS and WIU graduate and Civil Rights icon, the Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian. Recorded at the former site of Vivian’s childhood home in Macomb, Illinois on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020.

The dedication ceremony was hosted by the Black Legacy Community of Macomb, the McDonough County Branch NAACP, the City of Macomb and WIU. Director Emerita of the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center Belinda Carr and Assistant Vice President for Student Services Emeritus Earl Bracey served as the mistress and master of ceremonies.

Dr. Vivian graduated from Macomb High School in 1942 and went on to attend WIU. From Macomb, he headed to Peoria where his lifelong commitment to Civil Rights and racial justice began.
