Skriabina, Evans and Sayfetdinova earn All-Big 12 Honors

IRVING, Texas – Three Texas Tech women’s tennis players earned All-Conference honors, the Big 12 announced Thursday.

Senior Margarita Skriabina was named a First Team Singles All-Big 12 selection, while No. 1 doubles duo Avelina Sayfetdinova and Kailey Evans earned Second Team All-Big 12 Doubles honors.

A native of Bataysk, Russia, Skriabina is 14-7 so far this season. The Russian has seven ranked victories this season and won the individual title at the Torero Classic back in January.

Skriabina saved her best performance of the season for last, as the senior downed then No. 19 Lisa Marie Rioux in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) at the 2022 Big 12 Championships. Skriabina is currently ranked No. 21 in the most recent ITA Rankings, and will likely become just the third player in program history to qualify for the Individual NCAA Tennis Championships, hosted by the University of Illinois, May 23-28.

One of the top doubles teams both in the Big 12 and the country, Evans and Sayfetdinova closed the regular season 11-7 overall with a pair of ranked wins over then ranked No. 14 Riox/Miyamoto of Oklahoma State and No. 42 Chang/Bossi of WVU.

Currently ranked No. 33 in the country, Texas Tech will learn its postseason destination on Monday when the entire field of the 2022 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship is announced. The NCAA webcast begins at 5 p.m. (CT).
