Traveling the New Illinois Rt. 390 Toll Road
Traveling the new Illinois Rt. 390 Toll Road on July 5, 2016, the first day that tolls became active, both westbound and eastbound along the entire route.
Back in 1994, I traveled the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway, this same route, during the week of its opening. I was 13 years old. My original intent was to travel on it July 4th, the last day it was free, but I was too busy. So I decided to ride it on the first official day of tolling. This was taken around 9:00AM, the tail end of rush hour, and traffic was generally still light from the holiday. Given that, traffic still seemed unusually light. Maybe people were in protest. I don’t know. But with so many alternate routes (e.g. IL Rt. 19 and IL Rt. 20), I don’t see a lot of need personally to travel this toll road much in the future.
