National Weather Service officials called a Winter Weather Advisory to be in effect till 3 a.m. Sunday for portions of north central and northeast Illinois.
Snow accumulations were expected to be 2 to 6 inches, with the heaviest snow falling at a rate of one half an inch per hour late morning through the evening Saturday.
Snow was expected at taper off briefly Saturday afternoon and evening south of Interstate 90, officials said.
Current temperatures at Midway Airport registered at 22 degrees with a windchill of negative 6.
