Illinois River 25,500 C.F.S. Cave Junction, Oregon High Water Trip

0

The Illinois River is located in the Southwest corner of Oregon. It eventually runs into the ocean via the Rogue River. The coolest feature of this river is the fact that it is truly free flowing. So rain and snowmelt are the only 2 things to make the river flow. To have 25,500 C.F.S. in the Illinois, it had rained for 5 days straight with a brief stop of 5 hours the morning of our launch. Just a few minutes from launching, it turned back on for another four hours. At this level Big Falls moves down river a few 100 feet. There’s a four mile section of substantial big waves and seven to ten hole like features, including Kelsey’s Hole, before Green Wall. Next is Green Wall which at this point is between 75,000 C.F.S. and 100,000 C.F.S.cause of all the added water from the contributing creeks and the fact that it kept raining. The Green Wall section ends with the Squeeze. Next is what I call The Four Miles Of Monsters. The Monsters are fifteen to twenty five feet tall waves and hole like features cause the way they crash.Once through the Monsters, the last ten miles is enjoying all the beautiful waterfalls in there full glory.Creature Crafts is the name of the style of boats we used. They are designed for this kinda of boating. For more info: www.creaturecraft.com
