The faith-based historical epic The Chosen has taken the world by storm in its first four seasons, and the Christian drama will return for season 5. For the first time in the long history of biblical film and television, The Chosen aims to illuminate the life of Jesus Christ through an episodic multi-season series that is comparable to many of the most popular streaming programs. The series not only explores Jesus’ life but the lives of those who interacted with him by expanding upon the stories of Christian doctrine.
The Chosen was a hit with its target audience while also becoming something of a streaming phenomenon on various platforms. While there have been many movies based on the life of Jesus, The Chosen sets itself apart by being a true character drama, and utilizing the ever-popular episodic format to its full advantage. For those of the Christian faith, the story of Jesus is very familiar, but The Chosen has kept things fresh by eschewing the usually flat depictions of Jesus and his followers. With season 4 already proving a surprise box-office hit, season 5 seemed like a foregone conclusion.
