- Beasley announces he’s going to play in Puerto Rico while NBA investigation continues
- Improper gambling allegations involve NBA games during the 2023-24 season
- Beasley has never been charged, denies any guilt
NBA free agent Malik Beasley, under league investigation over improper gambling allegations, and with no NBA team able to sign him, is taking his talents to Bad Bunny’s Puerto Rico pro team.

Beasley is still in limbo. No charges. No clearance from the NBA.
Signing with the Santurce Crabbers, the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) league team owned by the Grammy Award-winning artist, who just played the halftime show at Super Bowl LX, is way for Beasley to stay sharp for NBA teams that might scout him out once the NBA announces the results of its investigation into him. If he’s cleared of any wrongdoing, that is.
Federal Investigation
BSN is the top professional basketball league in Puerto Rico.
The allegations surrounding Beasley have to do with improper gambling on NBA prop bets during the 2023-24 season when Beasley played for the Milwaukee Bucks.
Then it was reported last June that Beasley was being investigated by the U.S. District Attorney’s office over gambling allegations tied to NBA games. However following that news Beasley’s lawyer was telling the media that his client had been cleared of any wrongdoing, that there were no charges, in the federal case. The NBA investigation continues.
Was Close to Signing 3-Year Deal With Pistons
The Beasley situation is of course happening during a time when there are other improper gambling-related investigations going on, including those involving NBAer Terry Rozier and Major League Baseball pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz. Those individuals have been charged, have pleaded not guilty, and are awaiting trials.
Beasley played with the Detroit Pistons last year, after having signed a one-year, $6 million contract in June 2024, and had been reportedly close to signing a three-year, $42 million contract with the team, sources told ESPN before news about the federal investigation shut all that down.
Top Puerto Rico Pro League
Now Beasley, 29, is hopping a plane to Puerto Rico. Beasley is a good NBA-level shooting guard, averaging 16.3 points per game in 2023-24 with Detroit. The Santurce Crabbers play out of the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan. The team has won 8 BSN championships, most recently in 2007.
The BSN season starts in March. In the NBA, negotiations with free agents last summer began June 30, 6 p.m. EST, however no deals could be formally signed and announced until July 6.
