1. A Chicago man was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday in the 800 block of Madison Street, according to the Oak Park Police Department. Two offenders approached the victim in a parking lot and struck him with a handgun before stealing cash from his pockets. (OPPD)
2. More details are emerging about last week’s 18-hour standoff between police and a person experiencing a mental health crisis. An armed individual barricaded himself inside his apartment in the 1100 block of Harlem Avenue and was eventually taken to a hospital for evaluation. Interim Police Chief Shatonya Johnson was on the scene for six hours, telling Wednesday Journal: “I just hope that he continues to seek out help and gets what he needs, as well as his family.” (Wednesday Journal)
3. A group of Oak Park gas station owners is suing the village over a new ordinance designed to limit overnight crime. Seven business owners filed suit in Cook County, claiming a mandatory cut in hours will be “devastating” to their profits. 4. Fenwick High School selected a consulting firm to conduct its national search for a new principal. Partners in Mission will assist with the process, which is expected to be complete by January. The new principal would step into the role six months later. (Fenwick)
5. OPRF High School soccer captains Charlie Maguire and Jadyn Hsieh-Bailey raised more than $1,000 for the victims of the July 4 shooting in Highland Park. Their teammates also wore armbands to honor the victims during their Oct. 11 game against Highland Park High School. “I feel like this is an example to other kids – if you’re passionate about something or you want to raise money for something, just do it,” Maguire told Wednesday Journal.
