Renato F. Duarte, a licensed Illinois psychologist, was convicted by a federal jury on four counts of health-care fraud, the Department of Justice said Friday.

Duarte was responsible for filing Medicare claims from July 2016 to June 2019 for in-person psychotherapy services for nursing home patients on dates when he was outside the country, as well as for patients who were deceased, according to DOJ.

He is scheduled to be sentenced April 18, facing a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison on each count.
