A new Big Ten Network documentary unearths four, never-before-seen stories which follow individuals or programs at U of I affected by harsh Cold War politics following WWII. Illinois music professor Norman Cazden is called in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee. Illinois English professor Charles Shattuck quarrels with radical communists invading the Student-Community Interracial Committee. University President George Stoddard (1946-53) faces political pressure from local legislators and is accused of harboring communists on campus. College of Fine and Applied Arts Dean Kevin Hamilton and Illinois communication professor Ned O’Gorman uncover a secret Hollywood studio creating mass propaganda in their book, Lookout America!: The Secret of the Hollywood Studio at the Heart of the Cold War. The show culminates in a behind-the-scenes look at the Krannert Art Museum exhibit, Hot Spots: Radioactivity and the Landscape”.
