Snow is expected to accumulate Tuesday, creating slushy roadways and slippery conditions for Chicago residents’ morning commutes, according to a winter weather advisory from the city.
Chicagoans should plan for a slower trip to and from work Tuesday. The advisory goes into effect at 6 a.m. Tuesday and lasts until 6 a.m. Wednesday, affecting northern and central Cook County, as well as McHenry, Lake and DuPage counties.
Chicago is expected to see its first burst of measurable snowfall starting early Tuesday morning, one of several chances for snow throughout the week. Temperatures are forecast to be between 34 and 38 degrees during the day Tuesday and Wednesday, but by Friday night, the temperature could drop to as low as 9 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
The temperature downturn started Friday, dropping into the low 40s after setting a daily record high Thursday of 76 degrees. This weather pattern shift toward unseasonably cold and wintry conditions could last through Thanksgiving, according to the weather service.
