Chicago police are investigating the Saturday death of a man at a downtown subway station and a CTA employee’s role in it, according to the transit agency and sources familiar with the matter.

The unidentified deceased man was found unresponsive early Saturday morning at the LaSalle CTA Blue Line subway station, at 150 W. Congress Pkwy.

The CTA acknowledged that an employee of the transit agency played a role, in a statement to the Tribune Saturday.

“CTA is working closely with Chicago Police regarding an incident last night at the LaSalle Blue Line station involving a CTA employee,” the statement said.

An official cause and manner of the man’s death won’t be revealed, at the earliest, until Sunday when his autopsy will be performed at the Cook County medical examiner’s office. In the meantime, authorities are trying to determine if the man fell or was pushed down some stairs before he died, the sources said.

The medical examiner’s office office did not confirm the man’s name Saturday evening, but reported a man died at the station in the pre-dawn hours. A Chicago police spokesperson did not release any information about the incident.

Area 3 detectives were investigating.
