Deals: Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and S23 FE prices fall

0

Last week a 512GB Galaxy S24 Ultra was $1,220, now it’s down $50 on both Amazon and Best Buy. The 256GB model remains at $1,100 and doubling the storage is well worth the $70 if you ask us. It will help with the phone’s longevity (it will be supported for 7 years) as OS and apps will continue to grow in the coming years.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE (8/128GB) was $600 in late April, now that model is $50 lower. The same goes for the 8/256GB version, which is now down to $610.

The OnePlus 12R has been at $530 for a while – this is for the version with 16GB of RAM and 256GB storage – but S23 FE’s price drop had us comparing the two models again. The 12R has a lot going for it like an LTPO display and a more modern Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset (vs. 8 Gen 1), not to mention a battery that is 1,000mAh bigger and faster to charge to boot.

Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up to launch the next generation of foldables (shortly before the Olympic games start). This could be the last hurrah for the Galaxy Z Fold5 – it’s still holding a fairly high price, but now Amazon offers a $300 gift card to sweeten the deal. Or you might want to wait a couple of months to see what the Z Fold6 is like, plus any FE models that might arrive and (of course) the Z Fold5 prices might drop.

We might see new TWS buds from Apple at its upcoming iPad-focused event on Tuesday as the AirPods Pro (2nd gen) are getting long in the tooth. They are still highly capable buds and have the best integration with Apple products and are currently $60 less than their MSRP. Note that this is with a case with USB-C charging port (and MagSafe for wireless charging).

If you have an Android or just don’t want AirPods, you can have the Bose QuietComfort Eabuds II for basically the same price. They have great sound and active noise cancellation and are comfy to wear. On the down side, they lack wireless charging and multi-point connectivity.

The Insta360 X4 was announced a couple of weeks ago, it is the company’s first 8K 360° camera. The extra resolution offers more detail as you narrow the field of view, alternatively you can get higher frame rates at 5.3K and 4K than the X3 could manage.

Chromebooks carved out a niche as cheap laptops that are quite good for some use cases (they are popular in schools, for example). Some really are very cheap – this Acer goes for just $140, which is less than even cheap Android tablets like the Amazon Fire Max 11 (and this is before you buy a keyboard case).

It’s not a great laptop by any means as its 15.6” display has only 1,366 x 768px resolution. Also, the Intel Celeron N4020 is a fairly weak chip with 2 cores (2 threads), it doesn’t help that its paired with only 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage. But again, it’s only $140 and it doesn’t look too bad when compared against cheap Android tablets.

For something fancier though still reasonably priced, this Asus has a 14” touchscreen (1,920 x 1,080px) and a 360° hinge that allows it to turn into a sort of tablet. It has a more powerful AMD Ryzen 3 processor (7320C) with 4 cores (8 threads) and more capable Radeon iGPU. It’s paired with 8GB of faster RAM and a 128GB SSD.

There’s talk of a PS5 Pro, but that hasn’t materialized yet, so if you want a new console, the PlayStation 5 Slim is what Sony has to offer. For some reason the disc version and the digital version cost the same – $450 – and the disc one comes with a copy of Spider-Man 2 (it’s a digital download). We’ll keep an eye on the digital version in case Best Buy drops its price.

We may get a commission from qualifying sales.
