Exploring Illinois' FRENCH CONNECTION – Visiting French Historical sites in IL and MO – Day Trip

0

IN THIS VIDEO we explore French Historical Sites in IL and MO. We decided to take a day drive during quarantine to simply see some interesting places we’ve never seen nearby, and ended up tracing Illinois’ French roots. Not only did we have an interesting day, but we have a list of post-quarantine day trips for the future.
Some of the places we visited in this video include:
– Old Cahokia Courthouse, Cahokia, IL – c.1740’s
– Holy Family Catholic Log Church, Cahokia, IL -c.1699
– Jarrot Mansion, Cahokia IL – c. 1801
– Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery (former Fort Bellefontaine) c.1700’s
– Prairie Du Rocher, IL (c.1722)
– St. Genevieve – Modoc Ferry Crossing at the Mississippi River (c.?)
– St. Genevieve, MO (c.1690’s).

Check out some of these amazing OLD sites. While we know our history can be controversial with westward expansion, Native American land rights, and so on… these locations hold important information about our history – and how we chose to see it is to learn not only the popular stories, but to consider the controversy and suffering behind the story. Please know that is not lost on us.
