Ban hydraulic natural gas fracking and protect the environment.
Fracking is a huge risk to the environment of Illinois and the health and safety of its people. A single frack uses millions of gallons of water—water which should be allocated to people rather than big energy corporations. Fracking results in toxic waste including radioactivity, risks to human health and contributes to climate change. It cannot be safely regulated. Many states have tried—and failed. The industry regularly violates the regulations and, if caught, pays the fine as part of standard operating procedure. Until the science on human impact is conclusive, the state must, at a minimum, enact a moratorium. Big energy corporations (e.g.Exxon-Mobil and Halliburton) want fracking because of profits. But the people who will pay the cost of this dirty practice are you and me.
