Gov Pritzker's Briefing of May 8, as Cases Spike

0

May 8 – With a growing number of critics saying the Governor and Mayor of Chicago are moving too slow to reopen the economy, the number of cases spikes and deaths continue to rise.

Critics are saying the governor’s plan, “Restore Illinois” will take too long, and many small businesses around the state will fail before they are allowed to reopen. Across the nation, the Jobs report for April showed the US economy lost over 20.5 MILLION jobs in the last month — a record beyond anything imagined in years passed.

Yet, as other states move to reopen their economies, Wall Street investors are optimistic, with the financial markets moving up sharply on this Friday despite depression era unemployment numbers — the belief is that this economy was structurally sound, and a rebound can happen by the end of the year.
