Illinois Speed Press – Get In The Wind …1968
As the 1970s were approaching, rock music became more complex and would take on a whole new vibe in the next decade. This song, “Get In the Wind” is a fine example of the changing landscape of rock music at that time…. Illinois Speed Press was a Chicago rock band that combined many different styles and elements of music, including extended harder edged double guitar breaks mixed with elements of psychedelic guitar. In some of their songs, they also displayed elements of soul and country music as well. The band formed in Chicago in 1965 as The Rovin’ Kind. The Rovin’ Kind became the house band at the Whisky A Go Go, where they were seen by producer James William Guercio, who signed them to a contract with Columbia Records subsidiary Epic Records. Upon signing the band,Guercio persuaded them to change their name to Illinois Speed Press in February 1968, after which they packed up and moved to California. … Between 1968-1970 Illinois Speed Press released two Lps and three singles in support. Later on, Paul Cotton (guitarist/vocalist for Rovin Kind and Illinois Speed Press) joined the popular country rock band Poco.
