American basso profundo John Ames sings Tom Waits’ “Johnsburg, Illinois” down to A1 .Mr. Ames has enjoyed successes in dozens of roles in opera and concerts throughout the Unites States and overseas, more recently in Bangkok Thailand. (Thai-American composer S. P. Somtow actually wrote the part of Ravan in the opera “Ayodhya” specifically for Ames. The part demands a contra A–substantially lower than any other note in the standard operatic repertoire.)
