Man killed at hospital after double-murder

An hour after two people were fatally shot on Chicago’s South Side, a man was shot and killed outside of Oak Lawn’s Advocate Christ Medical Center in a likely related attack early Saturday, officials say.

Meanwhile, at least two more people were slain in an unrelated shooting on Chicago’s West Side overnight.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, Chicago police responded to the 800 block of West 87th Street after a call of shots fired and found two males on the ground with gunshot wounds, police say.

One man suffered a wound to the head and there was a handgun next to him, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was later pronounced dead, while the other was taken to the Little Company of Mary Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Then at 2 a.m., officers Advocate Christ Medical Center heard a single gunshot, Oak Lawn police wrote in a news release. A large group had been near the medical center’s emergency room entrance. Police found a 28-year-old Rockford man on the ground with a gunshot wound to his left eye and saw another man running away, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the 28-year-old as Brandon McGee. McGee was brought inside the hospital’s emergency room where he faced life-threatening injuries, the police news release said. He died later in the day, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Witnesses told police that the man running away from the scene was the shooter. Police arrested him and recovered a loaded revolver officers suspect was involved, the release added. Charges have not been announced.

“Preliminary indication is this incident is related to a double-murder near the 900 W. 87th Street in Chicago that occurred shortly before this shooting,” the Oak Lawn police news release said.

In an unrelated attack late Friday on Chicago’s West Side, two more people were killed and a woman was left in critical condition in a shooting in the Austin neighborhood in the 200 block of South Cicero Avenue, police said.

The two were driving south on Cicero around 11:15 p.m. when a beige SUV approached and someone inside opened fire striking a man in his 20s to the left side of the head, thigh and armpit. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 29-year-old woman suffered wounds to the head, back and left arm, and was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was listed in critical condition, police said.

A third person who was caught in the crossfire was discovered a short distance away after his vehicle rammed a parked vehicle. He was shot in the back, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No one was in custody for the Chicago homicides and none of the deceased from those shootings were identified as of Saturday evening.
