Meet PA Distributor: Central Illinois Produce

0

Central Illinois Produce got its start in 1967 when John Palmisano followed the American Dream and opened a walk up stand on University Ave. in Urbana, Illinois. In 1972 John moved his market to a small warehouse on Washington Street in Urbana, Illinois.

In the mid 1980’s the Urbana business grew and a need for more storage and loading facilities became imperative. The business relocated to its present location at 500 South Glover Street, Urbana. From this location Dohme Produce expanded into the Bloomington, Peoria, Springfield, Decatur, and Effingham markets.

In 1992 the current owners initiated a name change and Central Illinois Produce was born. The name change reflected the companies presence throughout East and West Central Illinois. In 1994 that position was strengthened with the addition of the third warehouse facility in Morton, Illinois.

In late 2006, with the encouragement of numerous chain accounts, we opened our fourth warehouse location in St. Louis, Missouri. This was our first entry into a major market and provided us with an unprecedented growth opportunity. Already servicing more than a thousand locations, St. Louis offered the opportunity of a lifetime for our already successful produce operation.

CIP shares their heartfelt thanks to all of our loyal customers who have supported us since our humble beginnings in 1967.
