Syracuse basketball coaches continue to dole out scholarship offers in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
One of the latest went out to underrated Tyler Betsey, a fast-rising guard/small forward in this class, he recently disclosed via his Twitter page.
To date, the 6-foot-8 wing has collected nearly 20 offers from a range of high-major programs. In mid-June, the contact period opened up for college coaches to be able to directly communicate with 2024 players.
As such, I’d expect many more offers to arrive for Betsey in the future as his recruitment heats up. It’s nice to see Orange coaches get involved with him early on in his recruiting process.
Let’s take a deeper look at new Syracuse basketball recruit Tyler Betsey.
While at present he’s not nationally ranked by the main recruiting services, based on some comments that I’ve come across from analysts and scouts, it wouldn’t surprise me if Betsey enters the 2024 ratings sooner rather than later.
During the 2021-22 campaign, as a sophomore, he helped guide Windsor High School in Windsor, Conn., to a 20-5 overall record. His team was also ranked No. 8 in Connecticut, per MaxPreps.
A May story from Joe Morelli on trumbulltimes.com said that Betsey averaged 23 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per encounter in 2021-22 for Windsor High School.
Betsey, by the way, recently said on Twitter that he would be transferring to the St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, Conn., for the upcoming 2022-23 stanza.
On the AAU circuit, Betsey suits up for the New York City-based NY Renaissance in Nike’s EYBL league, which has been holding games over the past few days in Kansas City, Mo., amid an NCAA live period.
In his first three contests in Kansas City, per box scores provided on the EYBL Web site, Betsey tallied 5 points, 11 points and 15 points. In this latter affair, he connected on 6-of-12 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Besides Syracuse basketball, others to have offered him include Virginia Tech, Iowa, TCU, Penn State, Seton Hall, Creighton, St. John’s, Rhode Island, Iona, St. Bonaventure, Nebraska, Brown, George Washington, Manhattan, Fairfield, Central Connecticut State and Sacred Heart, according to recruiting services.
A couple of tweets that I’ve come across lately also suggest that Betsey has heard from Illinois, UConn, Pittsburgh, Providence, West Virginia and Albany, among others.
In April, 247Sports national basketball director Eric Bossi wrote in part, “A product of Connecticut playing with the Rens 15U team, Betsey is one of those guys who immediately catches your eye. He is nearly 6-foot-6 already, has all of the physical traits of a future high major wing and he’s got game too. He slashes to the rim, the jump shot looks good and he’s definitely worthy of his early offers from Nebraska and TCU.”
