Millions of dollars have been poured into Chicago’s mayoral race, and less than a month out from the Feb. 28 Election Day, contributions are still streaming in.
Incumbent Mayor Lori Lightfoot is running for reelection and will face eight challengers. Since the beginning of 2022, she has raised just over $5.80 million in campaign funds — the most of any candidate except businessman Willie Wilson, who loaned his campaign $6 million.
But Lightfoot and Wilson aren’t the only ones raking in millions on the campaign trail. Three other candidates have surpassed the million-dollar mark, with former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas amassing approximately $4.83 million, Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson raising close to $3.79 million and U.S. Representative Jesús ‘Chuy’ García collecting around $2.74 million from donors.

Election Day for the mayor’s race is Feb. 28, 2023. If no candidate receives a majority of votes in February, a runoff election will be held on April 4, 2023.
