Strengthening Illinois' Care Infrastructure: Economic Justice and Long-Term Care

On Oct. 22, the National Academy of Social Insurance and Caring Across Generations hosted a virtual forum on Strengthening Illinois’ Care Infrastructure. Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (D-IL, 14th District) of the U.S. House of Representatives gave opening remarks on the need to address the key drivers of adverse outcomes from COVID-19 by advancing policies to protect residents and workers in long-term care facilities among other urgent policy priorities. Panelists Meg Cooch, Executive Director, The Arc Illinois; MaryBeth Linse, Personal Care Assistant; Uchechi A. Mitchell, Assistant Professor, Community Health Sciences, School of Public Health, University of Illinois Chicago; Christina Warden, Director of Policy, Women Employed; and Marci Ybarra, Associate Professor, School of Social Service Administration, University of Chicago discussed the urgency of addressing the gaps in current care infrastructure and the specific needs of their individual communities.
