The Illinois Speed Press – "Bad Weather" – 1970

Original vinyl rip: Redtelephone66

From the 1970 Columbia LP “Duet” CS 9976

A very strange album. Not in an experimental or absurd way, just bizarre. Its contents are all over the place ranging from blues to country to psychedelia to jazz-influenced rock.

There are a couple of decent harder tracks, but also a baroque pop suite complete with strings. Though varied the material is consistently strong with some great guitar work and drumming.

Upon first listening to this I was pleasantly surprised that the Illinois Speed Press were responsible for the Poco song “Bad Weather”, mainly because its writer Paul Cotton would join that band following this album. The more you know. (AnActualLemon RYM)
