📢 I’m looking for business owners and marketers in Chicago who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Chicago Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that’s you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

📰 Top 5 stories in Chicago:

1) With one week left of daylight saving time, here’s what you need to know about clocks ‘falling back.’ Daylight saving time will officially end at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, meaning Chicagoans will need to set their clocks back one hour. But could it be for the last time? With the clock ticking on DST, here’s what you need to know about the time change and its future.

NBC Chicago

2) He brought Wakandacon to Chicago, now David Barthwell is creating his own world. David Barthwell, 40, is the brain behind Wakandacon, a convention dedicated to everything “Black Panther” that was held at McCormick Place in 2018 and 2019. And he’s looking to resurrect the three-day event next year at the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk. But the experience of bringing Wakanda to Chicago left the Oak Park and River Forest High School grad wanting to create a new world of his own—an elaborate computer game slated for release in 2023.

Chicago Sun-Times

3) Museum exhibit, 5K and sugar skulls: How to celebrate Día de los Muertos. The popular Mexican holiday, celebrated Oct. 31-Nov. 2, honors and remembers those who have died. If you’re looking for ways to celebrate the centuries-old tradition in Chicago, check out these events on the city’s Southwest Side.

Block Club Chicago

4) Meet Boots, the poet who leaves inspirational messages on Chicago’s sidewalks. After a 10-year relationship ended, Kimberly Brown began writing poetry as a way to heal her broken heart. Out of spite, she goes by the name “Boots,” the nickname her ex-boyfriend gave to her because of her extensive boot collection. But she isn’t pining for her former flame. Instead, she’s taken her art to the streets. Her short poems about advice, heartache and self-love can be found stenciled in black or purple on sidewalks around Chicago.

Chicago Tribune

5) ‘The city needs some hope’: Pastor Corey Brooks breaks ground for new Woodlawn community center. Pastor Corey Brooks broke ground Saturday, for a new 85,000 square-foot facility he believes will not only revitalize the Woodlawn neighborhood, but provide support services and resources to the community. For almost a year, the Chicago faith leader has campaigned to raise enough money to replace an old motel across the street from his New Beginnings Church with a new community center. So far, he’s raised about $20 million—enough to begin construction—but the total cost of the center is $35 million.

Patch deal of the day:

Good knives make all the difference in the kitchen, but you don’t need to overpay for them. Seido Japanese knives are made with strong high-carbon stainless steel (high-carbon knives are more durable and usually more expensive) and have an acute 15-degree angle for a noticeably sharper cutting face (most Western-style knives have edge angles of 25 degrees). For a limited time, Patch readers can get a 5-piece Seido Japanese master knife set for 71 percent off. At just under $70, this chef-quality set is perfect for any home cook and would also make a great gift for the holidays.
