Immigrating to a new country can be a huge culture shock, so often, new residents to the United States go to areas where there are others from the same ethnic, cultural, or religious background. Because of that, there are some communities that have a larger-than-average percentage of certain groups. In this video, we’re taking a look at the 10 communities in the state of Illinois that have the largest percentage of Asian people. The data referenced in the video comes directly from the U.S. Census Bureau, so I do have to acknowledge that there are some issues with the information. The biggest issue is that the Census Bureau does not break the “Asian” category down into subsections for country of origin, so this encompasses people from all areas of Asia, including China, Japan, Laos, Pakistan, Syria, etc.
