A 53-year-old man was in critical condition after driving the wrong way overnight on northbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive and crashing head on killing a 29-year-old passenger of a vehicle, Chicago police said.
Shortly before midnight, the wrong-way driver was headed south in the northbound lanes of the 2900 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive when he struck a vehicle head on, police said.
A passenger of the the struck vehicle suffered blunt force trauma to the body, and was taken in critical condition to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead.
The wrong way driver also suffered injuries to the body, and also was taken to the same hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
Traffic citations were being issued in the crash and the Major Accidents Unit was investigating.
