1 dead, 1 injured in early morning fire on the North Side – Chicago Tribune

One of two people injured in a fire in an apartment building on the North Side has died, officials said.

The victim, who was who was taken to Stroger Hospital, was pronounced dead there at 8:25 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which did not give further information.

The fire started shortly before 3:45 a.m. Saturday on the first floor of a two story apartment building at 1138 West Wolfram Street and spread to the second floor of the frame building, the fire department said.

Earlier, Chicago police said a 79-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man were seriously hurt in the fire.

The fire was extinguished by about 4 a.m. and its cause of under investigation.
