This video essay, produced by WSIU’s Abby Asher, takes us to the Southern Regional Competition for Illinois History Day, which was held on March 25, 2023, at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Carbondale students and their advisor discuss the importance of the event and its role in teaching history in the state. Winners at regional competitions advance to a statewide contest. Those recognized at the statewide event then compete at a National History Day event.
