WHY WE LOVE PLEATED SKIRTS

There are a number of reasons we love to wear pleated skirts. Here are just a few of our favorites:

  • They are incredibly versatile and can be styled for every season and occassion.
  • A pleated skirt is appropriate for every body type and have a great slimming effect.
  • There are endless chic outfits you can create for every season. Dress a pleated midi skirt up with a beautiful blouse and heels or dressed down with a denim jackect, bomber jacket, moto jacket and sneakers. Pleated skirts can be worn hundreds of ways.
  • Pleated skirs outfits are as comfortable as they look chic.
  • It’s a wardrobe staple you’ll have in your closet for years to come.

PLEATED SKIRT STYLE TIPS

As always, we always recommend wearing pieces that make you feel great. But, you cannot go wrong with a beautiful pleated skirt. Here are just a few of our style tips:

When styling a pleated skirt with a longer length such as a pleated midi skirt or pleated maxi skirt, we love pairing with heels, ankle boots, or knee-high boots to add length.

Accordion pleats will give you a sexy librarian look and feel while still feeling really put together. Accordion pleats have long, vertical lines running through them. These tend to be fuller through the hips. If you have an hourglass figure you want to accentuate, go for accordion pleats.

Additionally, a drop-waist pleat (when pleats begin below the top of the skirt) gives more of a preppy vibe but allows you to make it your own in the styling.

And, of course, we can’t get enough of the daring pleated miniskirt or tennis skirt style for every season.

One of our favorite ways to style a pleated skirt is to add a belt to cinch in the waist. Even if we are styling the skirt with an oversized sweater or turtleneck for fall or winter, adding a belt helps the look feel really pulled together. Both skinny and thicker-style belts look great.

Looking to style a mini pleated skirt? Play with proportions to keep your look fashionable and elevated. Tall boots and a long trench coat or wool coat will do just the trick in balancing out your miniskirt of choice.

If you are looking to wear your pleated miniskirt more casually, we recommend white sneakers and an oversized sweater for a chic street style look.

HOW TO STYLE A PLEATED SKIRT

As we mentioned above, there are so many suggestions we could make on how to wear a pleated skirt for every season. Here are just a few of our favorite fall outfits ideas.

STYLE YOUR PLEATED SKIRT AS A MONOCROMATIC LOOK

As you can tell from the looks above and below, we love a good monochromatic look. If you are shopping retailers such as J.Crew, Mango, Nordstrom, etc, you can often find both skirts and sweaters or blouses which are the exact same color.

Also, shops such as Banana Republic, J.Crew, Ann Taylor, Bloomingdales, and Nordstrom often offer pleated skirts in petite and tall sizes, too.

And, don’t stress, if you cannot find a skirt and sweater or blouse in the exact same color, similar colors do really well together, also.

It’s worth noting, an all-black look such as the black top and skirt above is a major fashion trend for fall and winter 2021.

If you want to add a bit of pop to your monocratic outfit, try styling with a long trench coat, wool coat or plaid coat for a cute winter skirt outfit. The outfit ideas are endless.

A PULLED TOGETHER LOOK WITH HEELS AND A STATEMENT BLOUSE

If you are looking for simple outfits to wear to the office, wear a pleated skirt with a statement blouse, sweater, or top.

Whether you are drawn towards floral prints, leopard, polka dots, stripes, or even plaid – shop your closet for your favorite piece and pair it with your midi pleated skirt for a chic office fashion look.

For the office, I like to wear my skirts with heels, ankle boots, or knee-high boots.

Need a skirt look for casual Friday? Try pairing your skirt with sneakers, a sweater, or a tee with a denim jacket or casual blazer.

COORDINATE YOUR PLEATED SKIRT WITH KNEE HIGH BOOTS

It must be obvious by now we love pairing a pleated midi skirt with knee-high boots or ankle boots. In my opinion, the combination makes for a really cute fall and winter skirt outfit.

And, it doesn’t matter the color Whether you own black, maroon, tan, cream, or any other shade knee-high or ankle boot – you can also always pair it with a classic skirt in your closet.

What I love about wearing knee-high boots with a midi or maxi pleated skirt is it’s an outfit that’s appropriate for almost any occasion. Whether you are looking for a chic winter skirt outfit for date night, brunch with the girls, a friend’s baby, or bridal shower, the office, and beyond – you cannot go wrong.
