Il Volo: Live from Pompeii

0

Working with PBS and Sony Music, Il Volo performed and recorded their concert for Il Volo Live from Pompeii. Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble came together in 2009 after competing in Italy’s singing competition, Ti lascio una canzone, and ultimately formed what would become Il Volo. In June 2015 Italy’s own award-winning operatic pop trio kicked off their Sanremo Grande Amore Tour with this historic performance. Set among the ruins of Pompeii, Il Volo Live in Pompeii pays homage to the past with classics such as “E Lucevan Le Stelle”, “Piove”, and “Unchained Melody” and combines them with Il Volo’s original hits, including the platinum certified “Grande Amore”. Singing in Italian, Spanish, and English, Il Volo recorded and performed at the iconic Amphitheater of Pompeii, the oldest surviving Roman amphitheater built around 80 BC. Once used for Roman gladiatorial contests, the Amphitheater of Pompeii was buried by the eruption of the infamous volcano Vesuvius in 79AD. Il Volo Live from Pompeii marks the first time the amphitheater has been used for a concert recording since Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii in 1972.
