Preserving the History and Legacy of Scientist Dr. Percy L. Julian

0

Dr. Percy L. Julian was a groundbreaking scientist who made medicine affordable for millions of people. He was a contemporary of W.E.B. DuBois and wrote letters to him offering help with the Crisis newspaper. He was active in the black struggle for liberation and understood the anger of Black youth in the 70s.

He suffered many insults to pave the way for black scientists coming after him and his home was firebombed after he was named Chicagoan of the Year.

Today, his daughter Faith has been singlehandedly trying to save his home to make it a learning center. The home is in Oak Park, IL, a suburb of Chicago, and is part of the Frank Lloyd Wright historic district. We are helping Faith to landmark the home and pay the back taxes before the next sale.

“Dr. Percy Julian gave my grandmother a decade of life by his medicinal achievements,” said an online post on FindAGrave. com.
